Filtration gravel
Filtration sand and gravel are used in purification of potable water and sewage treatment. The material used for these purposes is specifically graded pure quartz gravel. The two deposits of filtration gravel hitherto documented in Poland are not exploited at present (Nowy Dwór and Panoszów deposits). Their anticipated economic resources are equal 273 thousand tonnes (Table 1).
The whole domestic demand for filtration sand and gravel is covered with material recovered in processing natural aggregates from deposits situated in the Opolskie Voivodeship, foundry sands from the Opoczno area and glass sands from the vicinities of Tomaszów Mazowiecki.
Total amount of filtration gravel and sands recovered in 2015 from natural aggregates deposits (Opolskie Voivodeship) amounted to 15,710.01 tonnes (including 2,686.68 tonnes of sands and 13,023.33 tonnes of gravel), from foundry sands deposits (Opoczno area) to 261,430 tonnes and from glass sands (the vicinities of Tomaszów Mazowiecki) to 19,691 tonnes of filtration gravel and 3,688 tonnes of special gravel.
