Geosites are part of geological heritage related to the issues of geodiversity protection, essential also in scientific, cultural and historical terms.

The Polish Central Register of Geosites gathers information about the most valuable inanimate objects in Poland, such as single and multiple denudation structures, rocks, erratic blocks, karst and weathered landforms as well as other geological objects.

The Internet application (The application is available only in Polish.) for this database allows the user to search for geosites according to the predefined criteria, for instance an administrative region (voivodeship) and type or rank of the site. As a result, the user receives basic information about the object, such as its location (including GPS coordinates) and travelling directions as well as its geological description, photographs, explanatory illustrations and bibliography.

The Polish Central Register of Geosites is a popular science service run by the Central Geological Database of the PGI–NRI.
